Introducing The Granada - A New Twist on the Telecaster

Ancoats Guitars

First, A Bit of History

The Fender Telecaster is one of the most iconic and influential electric guitars in music history. Introduced in 1950 by Leo Fender, it was initially called the "Esquire" before being renamed to "Telecaster" in 1951. The name "Telecaster" is a combination of "television" and "caster," reflecting the futuristic appeal of television at the time. With its sharp, bright tone and simple yet durable design, the Telecaster quickly became popular among country, rock, and blues musicians. Its unique sound and construction have made it a staple in the world of electric guitars ever since.

Granada Television, based in Manchester, was one of the most influential television companies in the UK. Founded in 1954 by Sidney Bernstein, Granada was one of the original regional ITV franchises, offering programming to the North West of England. The company gained a reputation for high-quality drama and innovation, with notable shows like Coronation Street, which first aired in 1960 and became the world's longest-running soap opera. Granada also produced landmark documentaries and entertainment programs. In 2004, it merged with Carlton Communications to form ITV plc, but its legacy as a pioneering force in British television continues to be remembered.

I have named this guitar The Granada as a nod to the television heritage of both the Telecaster and Manchester.

Introducing the Granada: A New Twist on the Telecaster Classic by Ancoats Guitars

When it comes to electric guitars, few designs have stood the test of time quite like the Fender Telecaster. Its sharp, clear tones and simple, functional design have inspired musicians across genres for over seven decades. However, at Ancoats Guitars, we believe there’s always room for evolution—combining the essence of a classic with fresh, innovative ideas. That's where The Granada comes in.

Inspired by the Telecaster but reimagined for the modern player, the Granada blends some of the most beloved aspects of the Telecaster with new elements to create something uniquely ours.

Classic Tones, Fresh Design

At its core, the Granada retains the powerful, punchy sound that has made the Telecaster a staple for players in genres like rock, country, and blues. The pickups for this guitar have been specially designed, in conjunction with Green Pickups of Manchester, to combine the best of vintage and modern Telecaster tones, achieved through the clever use of a combination of different Alnico magnets. These pickups come as standard on this model, delivering clarity and warmth with just the right amount of bite. However, if you prefer, they can be upgraded to any other pickups of your choosing to suit your specific needs and tonal preferences.

But where the Granada stands apart is in its design. Drawing on the Telecaster’s iconic shape and the best features from some of my other favorite guitar models, we’ve reimagined the body and angles to create a guitar that looks cooler and more dynamic (in my opinion). The refined contours and sleek lines give the Granada a fresh, modern feel while maintaining the distinctive silhouette that makes it instantly recognizable.

Innovation Meets Tradition

At Ancoats Guitars, we pride ourselves on pushing the boundaries of guitar design while still respecting the traditions that made these instruments legendary. The Granada is a reflection of this philosophy—a guitar that takes inspiration from the Telecaster and other iconic designs, blending them into a fresh, modern concept. We’ve carefully crafted this instrument to offer a perfect balance of classic tones, innovative design, and exceptional playability.

Customisations?

The Granada starts at just £949 for the "Stage" version, offering an accessible entry point into the world of high-quality, customisable guitars. Just like our other models, the Granada can be tailored to your specific preferences, with a wide range of options available. Whether you want to personalise the finish, select your preferred pickups, or fine-tune the hardware, we offer countless customisation possibilities to ensure your Granada is as unique as your playing style. At Ancoats Guitars, we believe every musician deserves an instrument that fits them perfectly, and the Granada delivers that flexibility without compromising on quality or performance.
